Warrior Boys Win 4th Game

The Whiting boys' basketball team wrapped up the 2011 portion of their schedule with a 45-40 win over the Charter Oak-Ute Bobcats in the Whiting High School Gymnasium. The first quarter saw both teams battle to a 7-7 tie. The Warriors would then go on an 8-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. By halftime, Whiting led 21-15. The rest of the game was very even as the Bobcats tied the game with four minutes remaining. However, Whiting would end the game on a 10-5 run as the captured their fourth win of the season. "We seemed a little sluggish and tired the whole game. I don't think any of us were happy about how we played but it's a credit to the guys to win a game on a night when you aren't playing your best," said head coach Lee Nelson.
Whiting was led in scoring by senior Reid Linden with 16 points. He also added 8 rebounds. The Warriors are 4-1 this year when Linden scores in double figures. Senior Nate Mikkelsen was next in line with 11 points. He also contributed 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Senior Bryce Hubert had a near triple double with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. His rebound and assists totals were both career-highs. Freshman Wade Martian and senior Kevin Grell rounded out the scoring for Whiting with five and four, respectively. Grell led the team with four steals and Martian had a career-high 6 rebounds.
The Warriors return to action Tuesday, January 3rd against IKM/Manning. The Wolves enter the game with a 6-1 record. The girls' game begins at 6 with the boys' to follow.
