Speech Season Underway

On Saturday January, 23 the Whiting High School Speech team traveled to Sioux City for district contest. The contest was held at East High School and Shelley Molland did a wonderful job of making it run smoothly as usual. This year Whiting produced a One Act play, a Choral Reading, a Readers Theatre piece, three Group Improv groups and two Group Mime groups. All of the students did a wonderful job at contest despite the difficulties we had with practices due to ol’ man winter this year! In the One Act play this year we had the wonderful actors Mallory Shaw, Justin Storm, Dan Benjamin, Taylor Kron, Mike Pierick, Sydney Linden, and Brittany Meyer. Our Choral Reading group (who are known to love poetry ) included Mariah Walton, Ali Rich, Sydney Linden, Reid Linden, Alex Newman, and Kayli Methvin.  Readers Theatre advanced to state and the students involved were Dezerea Richardson, Mariah Walton, Ali Rich, Kayla Bird, Alex Newman, Bethany Dudley, Abbi Rich, Kayli Methvin, Brittni Gray, and Stephanie Anderson. Group Mime advanced also and included Kayla Bird, Brittni Gray, and Rebecca Hagemann. All Group Improv students advanced and they included Justin Storm, Dan Benjamin, Cody Deen, Christian Neldeberg, Mike Pierick, Reid Linden, Kevin Grell, Bryce Hubert, and Rebecca Hagemann.
