Warriors fall after holding 3rd quarter lead
December 14, 2009
The Whiting Warriors fought a tough game Friday night against the Charter Oak- Ute Bobcats. The Warriors began the game slowly, but their defense kept the score close as they only trailed by one after the first quarter.
In the second quarter the scoring pick up for the Warriors as Justin Storm and Kevin Grell scored seven points and Reid Linden added to the total with six. After only trailing by one at half, the Warriors took the lead early in the 3rd quarter and lost in only to be behind the Bobcats by 5 points at the end of the quarter.
The team struggled to find the basket in the fourth quarter as they had a stretch of four minutes where they couldn’t score. Coach Packard was quoted, “The boys did a great job tonight, we pressed the whole game, which is something that we have not done before, so you could see that in the fourth quarter we did not have our legs as our shots were coming up short, but yet it was the press that kept us in the game, too.”
The Warriors had many different contributors in this game, Justin Storm led the team with 18 points and was helped by Reid Linden’s nine and Kevin Grell’s seven. Team also got six points from Christian Neldeberg and two from Bryce Hubert. “If we continue to get points from everyone on the team we will find ourselves in more games like this, but hopefully we will come out with a few W’s along the way” said Coach Packard
