Football Fight Backs Only To Fall Short

Warriors Lose 47-30 In the Last Game of the Season

by Shawn Packard

October 26, 2009

The 2009 football season has come to an end, with a disappointing 47-30 loss to the Bobcats of Charter Oak-Ute.  The Warriors fell behind quickly 20-0 after the first quarter, but rapidly found their stride scoring 14 points in the second quarter.  After each team shut out each other in the third, the Warriors kept fighting back with two touchdown scores, but the defense could not keep the Bobcats out of the end zone as Charter Oak-Ute's special teams scored on an onside kick attempt late in the fourth quarter.

The player of the game was senior running back Justin Storm.  In his final game, Justin and the rest of the seniors, were not going to end their football careers without a fight.  Justin had 83 yards rushing on13 attempts with two touchdowns.  He also added seven receptions for 84 yards and a score.  The night was not complete as Justin also capped the night off by leading the team with 16 tackles.

Other contributors in the game included Reid Linden who was 10 for 27 with two touchdown throws and three interceptions.  Kyle Kleepspies also help to the Warriors cause by grabbing two receptions for 12 yards, but one was a 7 yard touchdown reception.

Defensively the Warriors had two interceptions, one by Bryce Hubert and one by Cody Ham.  The defensive tackles, Nyk Reeves and Travis Slusher, finished the night with 9 and 7 tackles, respectively.  Dan Benjamin came up big by grabbing 12 tackles as he was asked to play a new position middle linebacker, due to the untimely illness of starting linebacker Taylor Kron.

After the game Coach Packard was quoted as saying, " These seniors gave everything they had tonight, they left everything on the field.  I am proud to have coached them the last two years, each and every one of them will be missed."
